Lakka

Lakka is situated at the northern tip of Paxos, nestled in a bay that is well protected from the winds and renowned for its turquoise waters. This picturesque village exudes a sense of peace and tranquility. Its small port is highly popular among sailors for its safe anchorage, making it a frequent refuge for those seeking shelter from storms—many often remain anchored here for days until the weather improves. Lakka also welcomes visitors from nearby areas such as Corfu, Sivota, and Parga, who arrive by tourist boats and day trips.

Historically, the name “Lakka” is believed to originate from its first inhabitants, who were of Souliot descent. Fleeing persecution by Ali Pasha of Ioannina, they sought refuge on Paxos and Antipaxos. One of the key attractions in Lakka is its lighthouse, built entirely of stone in 1832. The lighthouse stands 36 meters tall, at an elevation of 108 meters above sea level.

Accommodation in Lakka consists mainly of small, traditional guesthouses, rooms to let, modern apartments, studios, and villas—many just a stone’s throw from the beach and offering stunning views of the turquoise waters. In the main square, traditional tavernas serve local cuisine and delicacies, while the Italian influence is also clearly evident in the area.

Among the most renowned beaches in Lakka and on the island are Monodendri and Harami (Charami) Beach. Monodendri features an organized beach bar as well as sunbeds and umbrellas. Behind the cove, there are caves worth exploring, including the Cave of Ypapanti.

Access to Lakka is easy and convenient, being just 8 km from Gaios and 3 km from Loggos. By car, you can reach any location on the island within 10–15 minutes. For those without their own transport, car and motorbike rentals are available, and there is also a bus service from Gaios.

It is also very easy to rent a boat and discover all the hidden beauties of Paxos that are otherwise inaccessible from the mainland.
